Not what I expected Aug 23, 2010
By Julia This case looks better in the photo than it does in real life. It's not ugly or anything, but up close, it looks a bit like Ultra Honey Oak Contact Paper, 18" x 15' . It's saving graces in the looks department are the obvious craftsmanship and oddly enough, the golden JAVOdge emblem, which is truly a classy touch.
The closure tab serves double duty as a pull tab to help remove the DX from the sleeve. This is a smart and functional idea that makes device retrieval quick and easy. It feels nice in my hand, not slippery, but not sticky either. The seams and manufacturing details are reminiscent of finely crafted leather work. The sleeve is not padded, nor is it a hard shell, as one might might assume from the "Hardwood" name. It's styling is thin and sexy, but don't count on it being much more than a dustcover.
I briefly considered returning the case, because without padding, I won't trust it to protect my Kindle DX for daily use. But, I've decided to keep the case to use for travel, when I carry the DX and other electronics inside a well-padded netbook case.
