Doesn't cover cell phones! Nov 20, 2009
By Ludek Bryan Hey, be careful! I was about to buy the 3 year warranty for Nokia N-900 cell phone, as the warranty was on the same page as the phone (users who bought this phone also bought the warranty...). However, I called the SquareTrade, and they told me this warranty doesn't work with phones! They have something else for the phones, but it's more expensive and only 2 years.

I was ready for a fight.... Nov 04, 2009
By Michael Greeenburg However, it never happened! My second used Escort 8500 radar detector failed that I purchased through ebay. Square Trade had already reimbersed me the cost of the first failed Escort 8500 I bought on eBay so I was ready for pushback. To my relief there was zero BS or runaround at all. The CS rep has me ship the unit to them and offered me several methods for the return of my purchase price. Sweet!
I have since bought a New Escort 9500ix on eBay and of course the protection of a Square Trade warranty just in case my bad luck continues. Either way I am covered.

Couldn't ask for more Dec 26, 2009

I bought an XBOX 360 off Ebay, probably not even a month later I got the infamous Red Ring of Death. Because my 360 was refurbished, Microsoft would not fix it, luckily I had bought a SquareTrade Warranty just for that reason, and boy am I glad I did. I set up a claim which was a breeze, they gave me the shipping slip to print off for free, I went down to the UPS store, paid about $10 for them to package it up. Due to the holiday season it did take a little bit for them to get the money back, but no complaints there. I was fully reimbursed and couldn't be happier, will use SquareTrade again without a doubt.
Understand the coverage ! Mar 01, 2012
By RCD This is not a review of the actual service received or usage. I originally rated 2 stars based on the nature of the description and lack of understanding, but have increased to 3 because of the response by Square Trade to this post. (((please read update on 3/8/2012)))
I just wanted to point out that the coverage period could be a bit misleading. I was looking to buy a av receiver that comes with a 2 year parts/labor manufacturer warranty. By purchasing the 3 year Square Trade warranty, I was told it would overlap the existing coverage and only actually add 1 year. The Square Trade coverage begins on the "date of purchase" and if you have a problem within the manufacturer warranty period, you will be directed to them. It actually does tell you all this if you read the descriptions, but it could be misleading to some.
For $80 it really wasn't such a bad deal especially for a 3rd year of coverage on an electronic product, but I personally would appreciate it if they advertised and sold coverages based on actual coverage time beyond the manufacturer. Also, If anyone has actually ever had to use it I would be curious to know how they responded and treated you.
Updated 3/5/12--- I found a another receiver that was being sold by an unauthorized Pioneer seller. Because I am understanding Pioneer will not honor the 1 year warranty from unauthorized dealers, I called Square Trade to see how things would play out in the event I had issues. I was told that they would cover it in the 1st year only if Pioneer would not? Not sure how reliable that info was because she didnt sound to sure of herself when I tried to confirm that. But, that is what was said. She did say that it would be considered refurbished which I still have no idea what the effect of that would be. Lower value maybe? Also, I should mention the way she said the warranty should work.....if you needed to use it....they will send you a pre-paid shipping label to get it to them. Repairs are done within 5 days. No charge but...they will deduct the parts and repair costs from your purchase price and that is the value that remains. In other words, you originally payed $400 for a receiver........you need parts/repairs that cost them $200......your receiver is now worth $200. So, if you ever needed a 2nd repair, it could not cost more than the remaining "value". If that is the case, you are refunded that remaining value amount. If this in fact accurate, it really seems like a pretty good deal to me and for $53.99, I will be purchasing the plan. FYI.....plans appear to be cheaper by dealing directly with Square Trade.
Sorry this review was so long, but I figured that some might appreciate the information and at least know what to ask about and consider when looking at the warranty themselves. Keep in mind that you really don't know how good any warranty is until you have to use it. Hope this helps.
Updated 3/8/2012---Clara P. from Square Trade responded to this review and confirmed that you are in fact covered concurrently with the manufacturer. If the manufacturer coverage doesn't work out, she said Square Trade will cover it. Her response should be linked to this post.
