A Successful Woman in a Man's World Oct 13, 2008
By Ashley Frienz
"Lea"
Alicia Patterson, like her mom Cissy, succeeded at a time and in a profession where few women were to be seen. As editor and publisher of Newsday, Alicia showed resolve and a commitment to excellence that ought to inspire today's women communications professionals.
We've read about Katharine Weymouth, granddaughter of the late Katharine Graham of The Washington Post. I admire Katharine. I also believe that Ms. Weymouth owes a debt of gratitude to Alicia Patterson for laying the groundwork upon which she now walks.
I have a copy of this issue of TIME and am proud to display it in my office. What I enjoy most is having a chance to answer, when visitors ask me, "Who's that?"
